a brief bit of research revealed to me that Valentine's Day has been associated with lovers for longer than I’d thought: apparently the first surviving romantic reference to St Valentine's Day was made by Geoffrey Chaucer in the late 14th century

and the drawings are all made by hand rather than computer aided
